British Airways Starlink Rollout Slows As Summer Demand Takes Priority.

British Airways' plans to introduce high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet have reportedly slowed, with the airline focusing on maintaining aircraft availability during the busy summer travel season.

The carrier announced earlier this year that it would become the first UK airline to offer free Starlink connectivity, promising significantly faster onboard internet for passengers across its short-haul and long-haul fleet.

However, progress appears to have slowed after only a small number of aircraft received the new equipment.

At the same time, rival carrier Virgin Atlantic has continued to actively showcase its own Starlink investment, recently using the technology to livestream a live Sugababes performance from 35,000 feet onboard a flight between London and New York.

Installing new onboard technology requires aircraft to spend time out of service for modifications and testing, and with demand reaching peak levels across Europe, airlines are under increasing pressure to keep as many aircraft available as possible in order to maintain schedules and reduce disruption.

For most British Airways passengers, the slowdown is unlikely to have an immediate impact, as only a limited number of aircraft currently feature Starlink connectivity.

However, passengers hoping to benefit from significantly faster onboard connectivity may have to wait longer than originally expected as the rollout continues.

Despite the slower progress, British Airways remains committed to introducing Starlink across its fleet in the coming years.

The growing competition between British Airways and Virgin Atlantic also highlights how onboard connectivity is becoming an increasingly important battleground for airlines looking to improve the overall passenger experience.
