WestJet Removes Glasgow–Toronto Route for Summer 2027, With Edinburgh Service Continuing

Sep 27
2 min read

WestJet’s direct Glasgow–Toronto service will not operate as previously scheduled in Summer 2027, with flights no longer available to book on the airline’s website.

The change comes less than a year after the Canadian airline returned to Glasgow Airport, restoring a direct connection between Scotland’s largest city and Toronto.

The route launched in May 2026, operating four times weekly with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. It provided passengers with a direct link to Toronto Pearson and onward connections across WestJet’s Canadian network.

Edinburgh service to continue

While Glasgow loses its planned WestJet service, Edinburgh will retain its direct Toronto connection.

The decision means WestJet will continue serving Scotland from Edinburgh, while passengers in the west of the country will no longer have the airline’s direct Toronto service next summer.

Air Transat to continue Glasgow–Toronto flights

Despite WestJet’s withdrawal, Glasgow will retain its direct connection to Toronto through Air Transat.

The Canadian airline will continue operating its Glasgow–Toronto service, providing passengers with a direct option between Scotland and Canada during Summer 2027.

Air Transat’s continued presence will be particularly important for passengers travelling between Glasgow and Toronto, ensuring the route remains served by a direct flight despite WestJet’s decision.

What does this mean for Glasgow Airport?

WestJet’s removal of the route is a setback for Glasgow’s transatlantic network, particularly following the airline’s return in 2026.

However, Air Transat’s continued operation means Glasgow will not lose its direct Toronto connection altogether.

The change will leave Air Transat as the only airline operating direct Glasgow–Toronto flights for Summer 2027, subject to any further schedule changes or new announcements.

WestJet has not publicly explained the reason for removing the Glasgow route. No verified route-specific passenger load figures have been published, so it is not clear whether passenger demand or commercial performance played a part in the decision.
