IndiGo Ends Manchester Flights as UK Operation Comes to a Close

IndiGo has today ended its direct flights between Manchester and India, with the airline’s previously announced suspension now taking effect.

The Indian carrier has operated services between Manchester and Delhi and Mumbai, but both routes have now been withdrawn as IndiGo adjusts its international network.

The suspension was originally announced in June, with IndiGo citing rising operating costs and the impact of international airspace restrictions.

One Boeing 787-9 to Leave IndiGo Fleet

As a result of the Manchester withdrawal, IndiGo is also returning one Boeing 787-9 to Norse Atlantic Airways.

The aircraft has been operating for IndiGo under an ACMI arrangement and is expected to return to Norse’s own network.

Norse plans to utilise the aircraft on routes between Europe and Thailand during the upcoming winter season.

The aircraft’s return reduces IndiGo’s current leased 787-9 fleet, as the airline continues to develop its own long-haul fleet strategy.

Temporary Suspension

IndiGo has described the Manchester withdrawal as temporary, leaving the possibility of the airline returning to the UK airport in the future.

The airline has previously highlighted the strong response to its Manchester services, but current operating conditions have made the routes more challenging to maintain.

For now, however, Manchester loses its direct IndiGo services to both Delhi and Mumbai.

The end of the operation comes just over a year after IndiGo began its Manchester services, marking a relatively short-lived chapter in the airline’s growing international network
